Uniting Country SA is actively involved in supporting regional South Australians.  The organisation focuses on Gambling Harm and offers services such as therapeutic counselling, financial counselling, and community education. 

Micro-betting (or in-play micro wagering) is one of the fastest-growing gambling products and is increasingly being discussed in gambling harm research because of the way it changes the gambling experience.

Why it's relevant: Sports betting is increasingly moving away from betting on the outcome of a match to betting on events happening every few seconds (next point, next possession, next wicket, etc.). Experts are raising concerns that these products resemble electronic gaming machines because they provide continuous, rapid betting opportunities. 
Instead of betting on who will win a game, people bet on events that occur within seconds, such as:
  • Will the next tennis point be won by Player A?
  • Will the next cricket over contain a boundary?
  • Will the next AFL disposal be effective?
  • Will the next basketball possession result in a score?
  • Will the next pitch in baseball be a strike?
These bets are settled almost immediately, allowing continuous betting throughout an event.
