The statistics are sobering: Intimate partner violence is the most common type of violence against women, affecting 30 percent of women worldwide, according to a 2013 World Health Organization report. As many as 38 percent of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.
In New Zealand, a dozen women are killed by their partners or ex-partners each year. And in Australia, a woman is killed, on average, about every week.

Speaker District 9510 District Governor
Craig Dowling
This week District Governor Craig Dowling came to Whyalla to meet with both the Whyalla Norrie Club and RC of Whyalla. Unfortunately due to work commitments his lovely wife Kiki was unable to come with him. As reported in the Presidents report DG Craig helped out on the MCU, making the chips at the RUOK day at the University of SA campas. Thanks to Rotarian Ben he had the opportunity to talk with Rachel from the Whyalla News and even made the front page.
Craig was very impressed with Whyalla, PDG Jane took him to Rotary Park and for a visit round town.
At the meeting in the evening Craig discussed his vision for the incoming year. First he told us a little bit about himself and where he has been and what he has done. He was in Rotary in Melbourne and Canberra, then when he got to Loxton he realised there was a different type of Rotary, with a lot of different perspectives. Craig discussed things such as International Service; DEI and what is happening in the District; Regionalisation in Zone 8; Satellite clubs; Centenary of Rotary in South Australia; the Aboriginal Chronic Disease prevention Project;
to finish the DG took the time to answer a number of questions from the members.
Immediate Past President Brian thanked the DG for his visit and presented him with one of our calendars and our Annual Magazine.
Closing Remarks
Immediate Past President thank those of us who were able to work on the MCU at the University today. He again thanked PDG Craig for his visit and closed the meeting.

LEXOPHILIA: Lexophilia is a word used to describe those that have a love for words, such as "you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish", or "to write with a broken pencil is pointless." A competition to see who can come up with the best lexophiles is held every year in an undisclosed location. This year's winning submission is posted at the very end.
