Members Highlights
Jane had a busy week but accomplished many things. Kerre was concerned for her friends close to the Little Plains Desert fire near Dimboola in Victoria. Leanne's highlight was working in the MCU on Australia Day. Keith watched the Hobart Hurricanes with the cricket Big Bash. Shelley has had a crappy 5 weeks but noted that things are looking up.
Service Projects - Brian Herd
Brian ran through the list of projects we have committed to for the year and updated their status. The main feature of discussion was the upcoming deconstruction of the Whyalla Foreshore Playground. which will involve a number of stages. Stage 1: Identifying and coding of the component parts. There is over 130 which Brian has identified and entered onto spreadsheets. He has photographed the playgrounds from various angles and assigned a code to each piece. Stage 2 is marking each piece with the allocated code. Stage 3: Council will fence off the playground enabling us to move in and begin the dismantling process. Scott Hubner has donated the use of his truck to enable the pieces to be moved back to the Rotary Pavilion. Stage 4: Des Dunstall will remove the upright poles and transport them to the Pavilion. Stage 5: The parts are transported to Donations In Kind.
Brian also advised that the Whyalla Council have signed an agreement with WRC and that they will pay us $1,728 as their contribution to transport costs. This amount will be subsequently donated to Donations In Kind.
A Working Bee to do the Stage 2 Coding has been organised for Thurs. 30th at 10 am.
CLUB ADMIN. - Jane Owens
Jane outlined the role of Club Admin which is to ensure that the club operates efficiently and fulfills such roles as sourcing guest speakers, organising events and maintaining public communications such as Bulletin and Webpage. A specific event which will need focus in the coming month is the 70th Birthday Celebration to be held on 28th June, close to our original Charter Date. This will be a separate event to our changeover meeting which will take place at one of our usual Tuesday meetings.
There are a number of guest speakers arranged, and other suggestions were for vocational visits and perhaps a 10-pin bowling evening.
Jane proposed that we update our Strategic Plan and Action Plan as well as develop a Marketing Plan for club promotion and membership.
If you are unable to attend a Club Meeting or function your apology can be made to Secretary Brian Herd 0410 313 271 before 12 noon on the day of the meeting
