GUEST SPEAKER
Bron Anderson
Scam Awareness
Bron is a member of the Rotary Club of Gawler Light, but it was in her capacity as a Relationship Manager with Beyond Bank that she visited us this evening to talk about Scams and how to avoid them.
Bron had prepared a PowerPoint Slideshow which led us through the various types of scams we are likely to encounter, including telephone, email, Fake websites and investment opportunities. She also provided some case studies which showed how sophisticated the scam operators had become.
Rotarians were glad to take the opportunity to show their expertise at spotting scams they had avoided, however Bron pointed out that Australians have
Bron suggested that we never provide personal information and amongst other things always check the email and website address of anything suspicious as lost over two billion dollars to scammers in the past 12 months. Generally, if it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Bron also suggested that if transferring large sums of money, it is good practice to call the company or business irst to confirm their bank details as scammers often substitute their own accounts for the legitimate accounts of the business. Also never give anyone remote access to your computer.
Overall, a very informative exercise for all of us and I'm sure we all learned something new.
Below, Brian Moodie thanks Bron for her presentation.
