Royal Flying Doctor Service bringing COVID-19 vaccine to SA's most remote communities The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is holding "fly-in" vaccination clinics across northern and western South Australia over the next week-and-a-half to protect the state's most remote residents from COVID-19. Key points:
The first clinic was held on Monday and more clinics were held at Glendambo and Kingoonya and at two stations in the state's far north yesterday. The RDFS's vaccination team is flying into the remote locations each day from Port Augusta. Primary health care team manager Mandy Smallacombe the response to the clinics had been great "It's really encouraging to see how many have come out, just in the second day today," she said. Happy Birthday RotaryRotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world. Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves. Paul Harris Rotary founder Our ongoing commitmentThat commitment endures today through an organization that remains truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Our members now span the globe, working to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems. We’re not afraid to dream big and set bold goals. We began our fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio remains endemic in only two countries — down from 125 in 1988. Still making historyWith every project, we’re changing the world for the better. Follow the link https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/history read the stories and trace our evolution as an organization through historical documents, artifacts, and images that show the people and events that shaped Rotary.

On Tuesday both Rotary Clubs are getting together to make a start to the Birthing Kits by folding the Black Plastic sheets and cutting the string. Once again this year the Rotary Clubs of Whyalla and Whyalla Norrie will be putting together the Birthing Kits - the picture is from the last Birthing Kits we did. Birthing Kits are an internationally accepted intervention to support a clean birth. Each item in the BKFA Birthing Kit works to reduce infections at key high-risk moments of care during labour, birth, and immediately post-birth for the mother, newborn, and birth attendant. In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year old taxi driver, stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and remains the only) theft in the Gallery’s history. Kempton sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly - he had long campaigned for pensioners to receive free television. What happened next became the stuff of legend. Only 50 years later did the full story emerge - Kempton had spun a web of lies. The only truth was that he was a good man, determined to change the world and save his marriage - how and why he used the Duke to achieve that is a wonderfully uplifting tale |

The Drought Communities Outreach Program is now continuing to assist people in rural areas that have been affected by drought. Despite the unusual recent summer rains, the areas are still in drought, a drought that has lasted over 4 years. The touring team of Rotarians Jerry and Briony Casburn, and Sam and Elizabeth Cozens, supported by the Commonwealth Government through the RAWCS organisation to distribute $500 debit cards to drought-affected families in Copley and Blinman. Equally important is to bring them in contact with a range of other support organisations who are traveling along with the team. In total, an amount of $89,500 was injected into the local community, and the various government and private agencies were able to give advice to support these important businesses in the short term, and planning advice for longer-term viability. The Rotary Clubs of Whyalla Norrie and Whyalla will provide free BBQs at Copley Town Hall and Blinman Town Hall. Rotary District 9510 has distributed 950 Rotary $500 gift cards valued at $475,000 to farming families affected by drought over the past 2 years in 30 locations in the drought affected areas with 23 Rotary Clubs providing free BBQs. |

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented. https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/saving-mothers-and-children |
