Service Projects: Keith
Keith has received a commitment from Beyond Bank staff that they will be able to help us at the Whyalla Show and a Roster has been sent to them. Keith also asked for names from Rotarians who can help. This needs to be finalised at next week's meeting.
GUEST SPEAKER
Dr. Joy Penman
Australian Migrant Resource Centre - Whyalla
Joy is the Manager of the Whyalla Office of the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) which opened here recently. The office is located at the Alex Ramsay Community Hub.
As its name suggests, the AMRC provides resources and programs to assist in migrants choosing to settle in Whyalla. It provides support services such as language classes and job skilling programs and a range of other services to help new migrants assimilate into the Whyalla Community. A particular focus is on the partners and families of skilled workers who will be attracted to Whyalla to participate in the Hydrogen project in particular and the many other projects planned for Whyalla.
To finish up, Joy asked members to relate a story of their own experience or identify a need that the AMRC could incorporate into their extensive range of programs.
Brian Herd, who was once a migrant himself, presents Joy with a Thankyou Gift.
