PRESIDENT'S REMARKS - President Jane.
  • Leanne and Jane have met to plan the Changeover on Sat. 28th June at the Hockey Club, from 6:30 pm. Please confirm your attendance and meal selection as soon as possible.
  • There are likely to be some changes to the Regionalisation Pilot.
  • Jane attended the final graduation of UniSA Students as next year The University of SA and Adelaide University will merge. The guest speaker was Lee Martinez who was one of the principals in establishing the Rotary Mental Health Scholarships some years ago.
  • Jane noticed our Rotary BBQ is showing signs of disrepair and will donate the 'almost new' one she has in her shed.
PLAYGROUNDS UPDATE - Brian Herd.

Whilst activity has slowed in recent weeks, there is a Playground Tsunami coming and we will need some extra help. There are three playgrounds requiring dismantling in short order. 1, McGee Street. 2. Civic Park 3. Foreshore. All must be replaced as they are more than 20 years old. The Civic Park and Foreshore playgrounds are among the largest in the state and we will be encouraging other groups to join us in this project.

HIGHLIGHTS

The highlight this week was Cassandra's Birthday which fell on the night of our meeting. So, it was slices of cake all round and a raucous rendition of Happy Birthday. Amongst the other highlights, Jane noticed that for the first time, she is now older than The Pope. Brian Herd let us now that his band 'Hawkeye the Noo' are reforming. Greg also has supported two of the children under his care who are now being adopted.

Guest Speaker
Kerre Willsher
The Cadre of Rotary Technical Advisors

A Cadre is a term that was unfamiliar to most of us and is defined as one of two things.
  1. A small group of people specially trained for a particular purpose or profession: "a cadre of professional managers"
  2. A group of activists in a revolutionary organisation: "He was an activist in the cadre."
Obviously, Kerre belongs to the first of these and first became aware of the Rotary Cardre's when she was researching a global grant for Rotarians Against Malaria where Rotary Cadre's provide technical advice in many areas of each project. In Kerre's case, her PHD in Child and Maternal Health provides the necessary credentials to provide this advice and be accepted into the Rotary Cadre of Technical Advisors.

Kerre went on to explain that there is an induction process and that she is assigned a mentor to lead her through the process of project engagement. To find out more, please click on the link below. Alternatively, sign into 'My Rotary' and search for 'Cadre'.
