April 2024 is
Environmental Month

As People of Action, Rotarians have been shaping
the conversation on the environment for years

Fifty years ago, the first Earth Day was held on 22 April 1970, launching a wave of action to protect our environment, including the passage of landmark environmental laws in the United States. Other countries soon followed suit. Every year since, the day has been set aside to focus on mobilizing for action to protect our planet.

As people of action, Rotarians have been shaping the conversation on the environment for years, from addressing climate change that threatens entire food systems to fighting pollution that clogs our air and water. Rotarians are well-suited for the challenge. They use their connections to find creative solutions and take action to safeguard our vital resources.

The Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) assists Rotary clubs, districts, and           multi-districts in building awareness, inspiring action, and planning service projects that focus on environmental sustainability, awareness of climate change, and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Speaker Adam Walker
Owner Manager Breeze Bistro

This week, Adam Walker, joint owner, manager, and chef of Breeze Bistro gave us a wonderful insight into his life.
Breeze Bistro has been open for 7 years come the 15th June.
Adam was born on January 1st and he was the first one born in that year. He went to Long Street Primary School before the family moved to Adelaide.  They lived at Seaford seven years, then move to the Coorong and work on Dairy farms.
Adam has worked on dairy farms and potato farms.  He enjoyed milking the cows and looking after the calves.
Unfortunately, his dad had a motorbike accident and mum took over working for him.
It was when he moved to Port Elliot was when he really decided he wanted to work with food.  He found work at Billy Baxters which was fun.  Being that little bit older he found it difficult to find an apprenticeship.  It was when he moved to the Adelaide Hills found an apprenticeship making sponges, breads creme caramels, It was Woodside he finished his apprenticeship.
After a while he decided to come back to Whyalla, for a short while he worked at the beach café before it closed down. Following this he worked at a couple other places in Whyalla.  He was out of work for a short while then with the help of a Whyalla Businessman and a lot of soul searching, he opened Breeze Bistro.
He is very thankful that his parents are here to help, his dad is a big help to him in the café and with his brother Tim they have discussed a few things about where to from here.  Having come through Covid and with the help of his family things are looking positive.
