May 2024 is
Youth Service Month

May is Rotary International Youth Service Month when the focus is on young people and the development of the next generation of leaders
By nurturing youth, Rotarians can provide the skills young people need to succeed as future community leaders. Youth Programs provide Rotarians the opportunity to develop their own leadership and communication skills and also provides for many incredible moments!
Youth service refers to non-military, intensive engagement of young people in organized activity that contributes to the local, national, or world community. Youth service is widely recognized and valued by society, with minimal or no compensation to the server.

Rotary History - Keith

Tonight Keith talked about the History of the Peace and Harmony Globe at Rotary Park.
It all began in the Rotary Year of 2011-2012, when the theme was Reach Within and Embrace Harmony.  Soto Stuppos was the president of the day and in the second half of his year he brought representatives from Adelaide to do what was then called 'Rotary Visioning'.  Cutting a very long story short the outcome was that the club wanted to have a project to raise awareness around Mental health and a local, small project.  It was agreed to do some work at Rotary Park and upgrade the Rotunda.
In the Rotary year of 2012-13, the theme then became 'Peace Through Service' and Jane Owens was the President.  In this year we met with the local multicultural society to ask what they could see the club doing to recognize the multicultural heritage of the city.   thus the Peace Globe was born.  It took many months ton come to fruition and eventually in the Rotary year of 2013-14, when the theme was  'Engage Rotary and Change lives', John Cagney was the president.   The official opening and dedication was on Harmony Day 22 March 2024.
