LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

Vineeta and Margaret from Mawson Lakes pay us a visit.
Last week we had the company of visiting Rotarians Vineeta Dogra and Margaret Farr from RC Mawson Lakes. Vineeta is the President for the second year and explained how her Club has come from a small Club of eight to a medium Club of 20 with more on the way. They have a membership of 50% women and Mawson Lakes reflects the community they belong to. Margaret is the Secretary and the President-Elect.

Margaret told us of a Book the Club has undertaken to produce as a project. It has been in the making since David Egan’s year 2018/2019. The book, ’Celebrating Women in Rotary’, District 9510, is not only about the Women members of Rotary but also about the women who have supported Rotary. The book also looks at the history of Women in Rotary and in our District. Margaret has interviewed more than forty women.

PRESIDENTS REMARKS

The New Year kicks off with some community service and some fundraising.

Firstly, on Australia Day (26 January); a barbeque at Food Land in Essington Lewis Avenue. This event is in conjunction with RC Whyalla Norrie. More information to come. We don’t need to arrange anything.

Secondly  AFL Match, Sunday 21 February. We can leave the van there the night before. More to follow.

Thirdly, the MCU will be at the Beach on 13 March, 9 am to 1 pm.

Finally, Dinner Badges once again brought lots of discussion to the table but seems to be settled, Rotarians Margaret and Vineeta had theirs on to let us see what they would look like.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

A quick way to tell if you are old or not: Fall over in front of a group of people. If they laugh, you are young. If they panic and rush over, you are old.

MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

Kerre— surf lifesaving/practice tests. Judy—went to Port Lincoln, where it was just a tad cooler. Bob—took Marion and his parents fishing, the perfect day for seeing the Dolphins. Jane—had an exciting start to the week with David’s niece visiting and friends from Mawson Lakes RC also visiting. Keith—was really pleased that he got his new air-conditioning in before the hot weather came in. He also took his grandchildren for a walk along the jetty, only to lose a thong “It just blew off, grandad”. Our visiting Rotarians Margaret was really pleased that she got here without a speeding fine. And Vinnie—well, she was just happy to see her family last week, lots of hugs, tears and laughter.d text here
