Club citation

The Rotary Citation recognizes the hard work we do as a club throughout the year. Taking action toward achieving the citation goals helps us engage our members, stay relevant in our community and run more efficiently. They say that a welcoming, engaging club also reflects the values of Rotary. When clubs work to achieve the Citation goals, we also contribute to the overall health and culture of Rotary for generations to come.
To be eligible for the Rotary Citation, clubs need to begin the year as active clubs in good standing - invoices are due when they are posted, in mid-January and in mid-July.
To achieve the citation clubs must:
  • Go in to Rotary Central
  • Review the 25 available goals
  • Select at least 13 goals
  • Achieve those goals
  • Report the achievements in Rotary Club Central by 30 June

The Rotary Club of Whyalla was successful in achieving the Rotary Citation during past president Michelle's presidential year. Michelle attended the meeting as a special guest to receive the award and commend the club members on their efforts during this time.

A huge achievement - and one to celebrate!

Proud Rotarians - Celebrating the Club Citation

Calendars: Have been re-ordered (after being lost in transit) and are expected to arrive in March.

Polo Shirts: Awaiting on 2 more members to provide their sizes and then the bulk order can be placed.

Next Meeting: The club will return on the 10th of January 2023, with guest speaker Devin Davenport attending.

Thought of the week:

"There are 3 stages of man. First, you believe in Santa. Second, you don't believe in Santa. Then the third - you ARE Santa!"

Service Projects Report

Sunrise Christmas Carols: Although the selling window was short, the van was a sell out. The decision to use the van rather than the gazebo was supported by all. Some small hiccups during preparation - last minute pull outs and ending up bunless to name a few.

Next opportunity for service: Approved to set up at the Australia Day event. Keith needs to know who is available to volunteer in order to make a decision whether there will be enough man power to run the event. 8-10 volunteers are required and the hours will be between 11-3pm.

Science and Engineering Challenge: The last Science and Engineering Challenge was ran in 2019. We need approx $22,000 to run the 2 events, the first being the Discovery Day and the second being the challenge itself. Currently gathering support for the event. Difficulty in selecting a venue at this stage. A committee has been formed and the date for the event will be the 5th and 6th of June.
Raffle this week
Raised $46 and was won by Lauren Shivvaan.
SERGEANT SESSION
Fines were handed out by sergeant Larisa as follows:
Keith: fined for playing the Christmas ass!
Perry: Esme Watson, listening in to the neighbours (Michelle)
Jari: a well deserved fine for teasing the sergeant that he is not working over the Christmas period.

Brian: for his messy hair from the misbehaving air conditioner.
Lauren: providing an in-flight AA service.

All other members and guests payed a fine for being so rowdy that the sergeant did not get any dirt on them!

tonight's presenter
Rotarian Lesley gave a presentation on the progress of her Nature Playground project to the meeting.

In conjunction with the Whyalla Secondary School, a competition was ran for students to design a nature playground for small children. The task was very engaging and many students enjoyed the challenge. Lesley proudly presented the winning design, which was inclusive of children with special needs.

The next step of the project is to pitch the ideas to the Whyalla City Council - a meeting is scheduled for the 23rd of Jan.
