April 2024 is
Environmental Month

As People of Action, Rotarians have been shaping
the conversation on the environment for years

Fifty years ago, the first Earth Day was held on 22 April 1970, launching a wave of action to protect our environment, including the passage of landmark environmental laws in the United States. Other countries soon followed suit. Every year since, the day has been set aside to focus on mobilizing for action to protect our planet.

As people of action, Rotarians have been shaping the conversation on the environment for years, from addressing climate change that threatens entire food systems to fighting pollution that clogs our air and water. Rotarians are well-suited for the challenge. They use their connections to find creative solutions and take action to safeguard our vital resources.

The Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) assists Rotary clubs, districts, and           multi-districts in building awareness, inspiring action, and planning service projects that focus on environmental sustainability, awareness of climate change, and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

the week

"He profits most who serves best"
Arthur Frederick Sheldon joined the Rotary Club of Chicago in 1908. He became responsible for our vocational service, but is best known for our motto when he coined the phrase, “He profits most who serves best.” Sheldon saw the law of ethics as “natural laws.”

President Remarks

Standing in for President Mic, IPP Brian
held the floor

Brian brought to the attention of the meeting the videos "from the Mayor's desk"

Highlights

Jane:  Whyalla Business and Tourism AGM last Friday night
Brian: being away at the week-end with Hawk Eye the Noo and his son's 40th birthday.
Leanne:  Has a foster dog at the moment, Molly is her name it is a breeding dog.  It is a Maltese Shitsu. She only has to have one more litter then it will become theirs.
Keith: The city council treated him to a free breakfast for the WTF - 'what's the future'.  Keith explained what the city would look like.  Steven Yarwood was the speaker and was very forward-looking.
Brian M: Alex Sim is very pleased to say his eyesight is improving.  Going to Wagga Wagga Evelyn and Brian noticed an interesting sign which said "Dr Snip Instant Vasectomey".  It should have said on the bottom "Walk in limp out".
Kerre:  Had a wonderful time at the RAWCS planning in Sydney.  Unfortunately, she has lost her phone......  Kerre also met up with Robin Stevenson.
Lesley:  A lot to choose from today, and this was it -- reading a quote today is the most mosaic day that tells the story of your life.
Judy: Did have a beautiful cruise, and she has one more thing to do and she will be finished with her studies.  Should be complete by September!
Perry:  Last week took his mother to lunch they tried the pasta place on Norrie Avenue and it was very nice.

Reports

Jane:  It would seem the bulletin editor got a little bit sidetracked and missed the reports.  From memory, there was a discussion about the van being at the Show and we should be getting a better site.

Sergeant's Session

Speaker #2
Rotarian Lesley Hartup
Nature Playground

Lesley then gave a PowerPoint presentation of the latest on the Nature Playground.
As we all saw from the photographs, Lesley has been doing some work.  The ideal site for the Playground would be at Trevan Park, just off Norrie Avenue.  There is already a park there but it also has plenty of room to build a Nature Playground.
Some of the Photographs from the presentation are below. we also discussed the possibility of going to the park to see it for ourselves.
We agreed to meet next Tuesday just before our dinner meeting.

The top two photographs are of Trevan Park, and the bottom photographs are what it could become.
