Meeting Notes

Reports.
Service Projects Director - Brian Herd.

Brian gave an update on the wide range of projects on our plate this year. He emphasised that he would like to broaden the experience of members by having them take on the role of Project Leader.

Here is a summary of projects and events on the horizon.
  • Football Grand Final.  Sat. Sept. 14. Leanne is the Project Leader for this. A n event roster is being prepared and circulated.

  • South Whyalla BeerFest. October 19th. Shelley is coordinating this one. This evet is an event being held outside the South Whyalla Football Clubrooms on Beach Road. It is a German themed event based around the Oktoberfest in Munich. We will sell A German sausage on a bun with sauerkraut and some hot chips for $10.

  • Playgrounds (Rotary Overseas Repurposed Playgrounds). Brian advised that no further playgrounds are being removed until 2025 when the Civic Park Playground is due for replacement.

  • Christmas Pageant Dec 14th. The Whyalla Council will take on this event again this year as community groups decided that they could help but did not want to coordinate the entire event. Council will however ask the community groups that responded to assist.

  • MCU alterations:  Leanne has found a brand new vent in the store-room at the pPavilion which would be suitable.

  • Bedford Shed. An application for a District Grant has been lodged and acknowledged. We have applied for a Grant of $10,000 which must be matched by us. This should be sufficient to complete the shed. Bedford have received substantial in-kind support from local businesses and are continuing to seek community funds to enable the project to be completed.

  • Trevan Park: Lesley has engaged graphic arts students to take a photograph of the area and add our 'Yarning Circle' to it.

  • MCU Signage. We had a discussion on the best way to advertise our price list on the side of the MCU and a LED display of some description was suggested however no firm decision was made.

  • Destination Outback Report. This was a most successful event, and we donated $1,500 to the Whyalla RFDS Support Group and received a Certificate of Thanks.

  • Domestic Violence Support. Toiletry bags are being purchased for distribution. Funds from the recent 'Destination Outback' lunch were allocated to support this.
RFDS Says 'Thanks'
The Rotary Club of Dubbo South's 'Destination Outback' was a great success thanks to help from our friends at the Royal Flying Doctor Whyalla Support Group who provided a very friendly service and cooked 160 Steak Sandwiches for the visitors.

After all expenses were covered, we were able to make a donation of $1,500 to the Group.

Maternal and Child Health Month.
During July, Rotary celebrates Maternal and Child Health Month. It is an opportunity to reflect on the current status of maternal and child health around the globe, how Rotary members contribute to addressing issues at the community level, and further take the steps to analyze our collective impacts on health systems.
