The Future of Rotary from July
and a little bit of fun
Jane gave the meeting a quick update on what Rotary is going to look like for us from July 1.
Following this, the handful of us who were there delved into the Scottish Dialect. The first task was to write down - and Jane spelled it out for us - no easy task, that's for sure. POCH MA HON. She then asked everyone to pronounce it, then she did. It is a Gaelic saying that Jane has taught children and grandchildren. We then went on to talk about words such as BRAW, FOUTER, NUMPTY, STEAMIN, SCUNNER, GALOOT, GALLUS, BLETHER, TEUCHTER, CANNY. this gave us a bit of a laugh. Then Jane produced a can of Irn Bru (Scotland's Other National Drink), and Shelley quickly went into a rendition of the Barr's Iron Bru song. "I'm very thirsty, I'm thirsty too, here's the drink for me and you, Barra Irn Bru" Following this, the wonderful Shelley told us about her time when she was in the choir and elocution lessons.
She told us about pronunciation and how to ROLL THE BALL. then she told us what she had to do to pull her tummy in, push out her chest, and let the words roll out. Well, this bulletin Editor is here to tell you, that she had everyone in fits of laughter, Brian M and Leanne H had tears running down their cheeks, and Cassandra, nearly fell off her chair. Shelley just kept making it worse by saying, "Listen this is a true story". I kid you not, this has to be one of the funniest meetings I have been at in a long time. It was wonderful
