The Prez Sez
Unfortunately the Prez was indisposed this week, so we had to take our messages through sergeant Keith. His dastardly plans for our money notwithstanding, here is what he passed on from our venerable sage.
1) Raffle clean up at Helen Burt's house on Wednesday 17th November. Kerre and B2 have put up their hands but we need more. B1 will supervise and Greg is at work (I added that bit) so we will see what happens. If necessary Prez has offered John to help too.
2) Port Augusta Christmas extravaganza, cooking and selling BBQ between 5 and 8pm. Need volunteers from members. And a Covid Marshall. Michele will send in the stall permit later.
The view maybe askew, but Bob flies our website well!

Bob very kindly took us through a stroll around the wonderland which is our website. As the website host with the most, Bob was able to show many tricks and traits that could help us (and more importantly the public) to find anything and everything we needed to know about our club. His efforts took us to the site itself, explored the pages and showed off the links. Bob has been doing a fantastic job running the site and i for one am grateful as hopefully his education session will clear up one or two issues that I am still having with this bulletin. Thank you Bob, I am sure that everyone is thrilled with what you do, mainly because I do not think there is a single member that could do it as well as you do.

LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

Bronwyn from Gawler - 1st time in ages that she attended an area meeting, 83 in attendance including some big-wigs evidently.
Jane- Went to the Whyalla Business awards and had a lovely evening. Also attended the Science and Engineering challenge cocktail night and was surrounded by scientists, felt a bit intimidated....I ask though, is that an excuse for getting stuck in the lift?
Patsy - Had a play date with a 4 year old and spent time playing in the sand, had a lovely time.
Cassandra- Nothing to report
Kerre - went to lunch for a friend's birthday. Sounds lovely...what are these "friends" of which you speak and how may I obtain some?
B2- Had his Brother and Sister up for the weekend...... Highjinks ensued, I am sure. And got the concrete poured for the golf course.
Bob -  Very busy week, only got back on Saturday.
Keith - Went to a 90th birthday lunch. She's one of these people that finds the funny in everything.
B1 - Dundee United are above Hibernian on the table - which reminds me, did you know that cleanliness is next to godliness - in the Irish dictionary. I know it's not Scottish like the Football, but it IS funny.
Leanne- B2 made her crafting cabinet that she has been waiting on for over a year.... they sent the wrong drawers, so she's waiting on them.....I remember when i got sent the wrong drawers...3 sizes too small, boy was I cross.
and Me? - My highlight was caused when I realised how much i love living in Whyalla. I was driving to work and noticed a lot of cars on the road for the hour. Then counted them, to discover it was 6. The only time i saw only 6 cars on the road in Adelaide was at like 4am in the Hills.

Sergeant's session
Brutality the likes of which we have not seen in some time....and was it cause by yours truly stirring the pot?
Patsy got fined for enjoying her second childhood with a 4 year old...bit harsh I thought.
B2 and Leanne - Only finishing the fence to avoid a licensing fee.
Kerre - embarrassment when 2 people wear the same outfit (Both She and Jane were fittingly wearing the End Polio Now t-shirts to this meeting.)
Bronwyn from Gawler Rotary - for social climbing 101...all those bigwigs mentioned earlier.
Jane - social climbing 201 and getting stuck in a lift.
Greg- missing the tour of Bedford..... No I didn't blame my dog, it wasn't his fault Keith.
In a move that proved costly, I threw sergeant B1 a bone by informing him of an unfortunate email sent to Bob and myself by sergeant Keith. Perhaps this is why he was so blood thirsty tonight.

Rotary information

Jane shared some club history, specifically about the history of the Bell that we and other Rotary clubs around the world use to start meetings and, in the hands of B1, to beat members to silence.
I had never considered the reasons behind the bell, that was just something we did. So this session was most illuminating. Attached is the link to the video.

A fabulous video, well worth the watch.

And finally, Bob's joke.

At the local Bell-ringers society there used to be a "come try it" day where novice bell-ringers could come and try chiming the bells of the local church. They would climb the 300+ steps to the top of the tower, grab the ropes and ring away. One day, an arm-less man came in and asked if he could try. Being charitable folk they agreed. They helped him up the stairs and then said "ok, so how do you want to do this?" The arm-less man replied "help me put on this helmet, then stand back!" they did, and in moments he was running headfirst at the nearest bell. And something amazing happened. He played a beautiful tune. It was so lovely that the attendants ran down the stairs to hear it in the open air. Everything went well until the arm-less man slipped and flew out one of the windows, crashing to the ground. When the police attended, they asked of the man's name. The attendants were forced to say "don't know his name but his face rang a bell!"

I am sorry, so sorry.
